5 Easy Ways to Upgrade Your Living Room

Welcome to the last Wednesday in the month of March! If you are in Texas, I hope you’ve been taking time to enjoy the beautiful spring weather we’ve been experiencing. Chances are, you’re getting that Spring cleaning itch to switch things up and make some changes. The living room is likely where you spend most of your time with friends + family and tends to serve as the heart of the home, making this the perfect place to start.

Luckily, elevating your living room doesn’t have to break the bank – even if you want it to look super luxurious. Today I’m providing you with 5 easy ways to upgrade your living room! Let’s get started, shall we?

1. It Starts at the Base

A stylish area rug can really ground a room and provide a clear center. The appropriate size rug will make all the difference in the world, trust us! Opt to get a large rug for that oversized living room allowing the front legs of all seating to sit on the rug, further defining the space. In this project, we did just that! Swapping out the undersized 7.5′ x 10′ rug for a 9.5′ x 12′ rug really pulled the room together and made the space feel bigger.

The new rug needed to be low pile, easy to clean and something priced for a shorter lifespan. This poly blend rug checked all the boxes and was an inexpensive solution for such a large room!

2. See Things in a New Light

Changing out light fixtures can make a HUGE difference on the aesthetic of a space and add personality to your home. This ranges from upgrading fans, chandeliers, pendants, as well as table lamps and art lighting. Dimensions of lighting should be chosen based on proper proportions to the room, considering the width, height and visual weight of the fixture. We’re a big fan of these navy ombre table lamps with acrylic bases.

3. Everything is Bigger in Texas

That holds true for artwork in interior design as well. The bigger the better. Choose to make a statement! Not only did we enlarge the mirror above the entry table, but we also chose to pack a punch with a statement piece above the fireplace. To add personalization to the space we included large format gallery frames with family photos.

4. Oldy but a Goody

Do you have a special furniture piece that has been passed down from family? Or maybe you found a vintage piece at a local estate sale that needs a little TLC. The easiest way to give these quality pieces a facelift is through refinishing/ painting casegood items or reupholstering soft goods with a new, fresh fabric. Our personal favorite is adding an edgy, more contemporary fabric to a traditional frame! We think these chairs turned out STUNNING, but what do you think?

5. Step Up Your Accessory Game

It’s the little things in life! Sometimes a small decorative item can give your living room a major upgrade. Keep in mind, that when it comes to accessories less is more. Less is more? You heard that right! Too many small accessories can start to make a space feel cluttered. Make sure to incorporate pieces that have meaning to you in order to add character. Add a stack of your favorite books, a set of decorative vases with a faux floral and voila! You have a stylish cocktail table vignette.
