Ringing in 2024: A Memorable New Year’s Eve in Kansas City, MO

Happy New Year, friends!

We made it to 2024, and we have hit the ground running. As things quicken pace back at the office, we’ve been spending some time reminiscing on our travels from this past holiday season. This year, we spent New Years in Kansas City, MO to attend the Chiefs vs Bengals game.  The culmination of our year-end journey was a New Year’s Eve experience that blended sports, music, and the infectious energy of the Power & Light District.

Kansas City, Missouri, may not be the first destination that comes to mind when planning a getaway, but after a recent visit, I can confidently say that it offers a perfect blend of art, culture, and excitement. It was a fitting way to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one, surrounded by the unique charm and hospitality that define this Midwestern gem.

Aida – A Boutique Hotel: Where Design Meets Comfort

My stay at Aida – A Boutique Hotel set the tone for an unforgettable experience in this charming city. From the moment I stepped into Aida, I was captivated by its sophisticated design and inviting atmosphere. Hand written notes and local chocolates awaited our arrival in our room, as well as champagne in the hotel kitchen for guests. The attention to detail in both the common spaces and guest rooms was impressive. The boutique hotel seamlessly combines modern and traditional aesthetics with  comfort, creating a space that feels both luxurious and welcoming. It was the perfect home away from home during my stay in Kansas City, and I cannot recommend it enough! If you find yourself in town in the near future, stay here! I promise it won’t disappoint. I was so impressed that I’ll be staying at their sister property, The Truitt, next time I’m in town.

Exploring Art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

One of the highlights of my visit was a trip to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, a cultural gem in the heart of Kansas City. The museum boasts an impressive collection, and I found myself particularly drawn to several masterpieces. Vincent van Gogh’s “Olive Trees,” Oscar Kokoschka’s “Pyramids at Gizeh,” and Raoul Dufy’s “Deauville Racetrack” left a lasting impression. The museum is a haven for art enthusiasts, offering a diverse range of pieces that cater to various tastes.

Brunch Bliss at Gram & Dun

If you know me, you know I’m a brunch lover. That means no trip is complete without indulging in a delightful brunch, and Gram & Dun proved to be the ultimate brunch spot in Kansas City. The menu offered a variety of mouthwatering options, delicious cocktails and the vibrant atmosphere added to the overall experience. They were fast & our waiter was so kind. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to start their day with a delicious meal and good company. In true New Years fashion, we ended the meal with an Irish whiskey breakfast shot. Because, when on vacation, why not? PRO TIP: Make reservations online ahead of time.

Kansas City Chiefs & Bengals Game: A Winning Start to New Years Eve

The afternoon kicked off at the iconic Arrowhead Stadium, where we witnessed an exhilarating matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Bengals. The electrifying atmosphere and the roar of the crowd set the stage for an unforgettable start to our New Year’s Eve celebration. The Chiefs emerged victorious, and the cheers reverberated through the stadium, foreshadowing the festive spirit that awaited us in the city.

As we navigated the bustling streets, enjoying the pre-midnight festivities, it became clear that Kansas City had offered us not just a destination but an experience filled with warmth, excitement, and a sense of community.

Power & Light District: Howl at the Moon Extravaganza

With the game behind us, we made our way to the vibrant Power & Light District, where the excitement was unmistakable. Planning ahead, we reserved a New Years Eve spot at “Howl at the Moon,” a piano bar that promised a lively atmosphere and non-stop entertainment. The venue lived up to its reputation, featuring talented musicians who had the crowd singing and dancing well into the early hours of the new year.

The Power & Light District was a kaleidoscope of colors, with festive decorations and a contagious energy that made the transition from one year to the next truly special. We welcomed 2024 with confetti showers, champagne cheers, and the shared joy of a fresh start… And then proceeded to quickly call an Uber and go back to the hotel to throw on sweatpants and go to sleep! Oh, how times have changed.
